Randoseru

(Japanese School Backpack)

With unwavering dedication and
commitment, we have made randoseru for
three generations since 1949.

Randoseru is a school bag used by Japanese elementary school students. It is mostly made of cordvan, cowhide leather or artificial leather. Most children use the same randoseru for 6 years. So randoseru is required to be tough and light.
We succeeded in the philosophy “In any age, we need to keep making good products.” from the founder for about 70 years, since 1949. We make randoseru carefully with good quality fabric at our own Nara factory, surrounded by mountains and time flows slowly.

We will support you throughout your 6-year journey

To ensure worry-free use every day, we offer a 6-year free repair guarantee. If you encounter any issues, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Randoseru Features

Comfort

The shoulder belt of our randoseru is designed with metal fittings that allow it to gently curve and conform to the child’s shoulder. Additionally, the shoulder belt is attached over the backboard, which shifts the center of gravity higher. This design helps reduce the burden on children’s shoulders, providing a more comfortable experience.
Furthermore, a back cushion made from two types of urethane foam with varying levels of hardness. The cushion is carefully wrapped in breathable artificial leather, ensuring excellent air circulation. This design allows children to further alleviate the burden on their backs and enjoy enhanced comfort while using the randoseru.

Comfortable

Safety

Our randoseru is equipped with reflectors and personal alarm hooks to enhance the safety of children. These features help increase visibility in low-light conditions and provide a means for attaching personal alarms for added security.
Additionally, the loop clutch located on comfort sides of the randoseru is designed to release when the bag is subjected to a burden of approximately 13 kg. This feature ensures that the bag can easily detach if caught by a car or other objects, reducing the risk of injury.
To further prioritize safety, the up-and-down loop hook on the upper back and the use of a cushioning material with a low buckle help prevent injuries from contact with metal fittings.
Overall, these design elements and safety features incorporated into our randoseru aim to protect and provide peace of mind for children while using the bag.

Toughness

Our randoseru is made from durable materials, both on the outside and inside, ensuring its longevity over the course of 6 years of use.
To reinforce the corners of the randoseru’s back, we use a technique of making fine folds called “kizami”. This process allows the corners to provide support to the main body and prevents them from rubbing against surfaces when children place the bag on their desk or in lockers. As a result, the overall strength of the bag is enhanced.
In addition, each shoulder belt is equipped with 8 adjustable holes, allowing for customization of the length. At its longest setting, even Japanese adult men can comfortably carry the randoseru on their shoulders.

Large Capacity and Automatic Buckle

Our randoseru features a spacious main pocket and front pockets that provide ample storage for various items. In particular, the small front pocket can be opened up to approximately 8 cm, allowing for easy access to frequently used items. Additionally, it includes a key hook inside, providing a convenient storage option for your keys.
Also, the randoseru is equipped with an automatic buckle. This buckle helps prevent items from sliding out when you bow or engage in active play, even if you forget to lock the bag manually.

Leathers and Fabrics

There are three main types of randoseru available: cordovan, cowhide, and artificial leather. Each material possesses its own unique features. However, regardless of the material, our randoseru are finished with water-repellent and scratch-resistant treatments, eliminating the need for special care. *Please note that the case leather used for Liberta does not undergo these specific treatments. As a result, it will naturally change and develop a unique patina over time with use. This characteristic allows you to enjoy the natural aging process of the leather, adding to its charm and uniqueness.

Cordovan

Cordovan leather is often referred to as the “leather diamond” due to its exceptional beauty, intricate carving methods, and its rarity. At our company, we source cordovan leather from the renowned tanner, Shinki-Hikaku, located in Himeji, Japan.
Our cordovan leather is meticulously crafted to retain its natural luster and is treated with a water-repellent and scratch-resistant finish, ensuring its durability and longevity.
We offer a range of 9 vibrant colors for you to choose from. Select your favorite color that will accompany you throughout the 6 years of use, reflecting your personal style and preferences.

Cowhide

Cowhide randoseru have three types; cowhide, Yamamoto’s original denim-like cowhide, and case leather.
Both cowhide and denim-like cowhide leather are treated with a water-repellent and scratch-resistant finish, eliminating the need for special care. These leathers retain their beauty and durability over time.
On the other hand, case leather is designed to develop a unique patina and change in appearance as it is used, allowing you to enjoy the natural aging process of the leather. This characteristic adds to the charm and individuality of the case leather.

Artificial Leather

Our artificial leather, known as “Cordley,” offers a lightweight and high-quality alternative to genuine leather. Cordley is so well-crafted that it can be challenging to distinguish it from real leather. The surface of Cordley is laminated, resulting in a durable material that is resistant to scratches and showcases a matte texture.

Beauty of Edge Coating and Kizami

The edge coating of our randoseru undergoes a meticulous process that involves polishing the edges and applying multiple layers of varnish. This handcrafted process results in a limited number of products being produced each day. However, the finished products exhibit exceptional beauty and elegance.
Kizami, a technique performed by skilled craftsmen, is applied to the corners of the randoseru. Creating delicate folds resembling flower petals requires a high level of craftsmanship. The meticulous execution of this technique showcases the expertise and professionalism of our craftsmen.
We are committed to ensuring that our randoseru embodies not only toughness but also beauty. We understand that children will be using our bags every day for 6 years, and we strive to deliver products that are both durable and aesthetically pleasing.
