What is leather squeezing and hanging?

Wet forming and leather lasting refer to techniques that utilize the property of vegetable-tanned leather known as "plasticity," which allows the leather to stretch when wet and maintain its shape when dried in that state. These methods enable the three-dimensional shaping of leather and are primarily used in the production of the upper part of leather shoes.
In recent years, bags have become less common, and we went through repeated trial and error until completion, but we were able to create a series inspired by the craft of traditional Japanese drums.

Why do we make bags using squeezed and hung leather?

Bags made using leather gathering and leather hanging techniques existed in ancient Europe, but they have almost disappeared now. This is because they are labor-intensive and time-consuming.

However, we believe that once a technology is lost, it cannot be regained, which is why we dare to challenge leather squeezing and leather hanging. Rather than letting techniques that are fading away due to the burden of time and effort be neglected, we aim to pass on the skills left by our predecessors to future generations by producing products that utilize these techniques.
